Protein Affogato

This Protein Affogato will be the dessert of the summer! It has a thick vanilla ice cream base, from our FlavCity Vanilla Cream Protein Smoothie, that’s served over a smear of hazelnut spread and topped with hot, functional mushroom coffee that melts the ice cream into a dreamy treat! It’s a high-protein, no-sugar added, caffeine boost that is sinfully rich without the guilt! Makes 2 Servings

  • To a shaker cup, add the heavy cream, FlavCity Vanilla Cream Protein Smoothie, and vanilla extract. Then shake well to combine. If necessary, add a splash of milk (or half & half, if using) to thin it out.
  • Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami container then freeze it overnight.
  • The next day, pop the container onto the Ninja Creami machine and press the ‘Ice Cream’ button.
  • While the machine is running, make some hot coffee.
  • Once the ice cream has finished. Take it off the machine and open to check for consistency. If it’s powdery, put it back on the machine and hit the ‘Respin’ button. But, if it’s thick, but still scoopable, set it aside for a moment.
  • Take a small, wide brimmed coffee mug and smear the inside with 1-2 tablespoons of the hazelnut spread. Then using a spatula, scoop the ice cream and press it all along the base of the cup (over the hazelnut spread) and up the sides creating a well in the center with an overlapping border at the top. Repeat these steps on a second mug.
  • Then pour in the hot coffee and enjoy immediately with a spoon!
*Note: To make this recipe dairy-free, swap the whey-based protein smoothie with 4 scoops of FlavCity Vegan Vanilla Cream Protein Smoothie, and swap the whipping cream with either coconut cream or coconut milk.
